Establishment of peas - R007

Comparison of three different no-tillage drills for the establishment of peas in Oregon, USA.

Personnel: Dr D. E. Wilkins, Dr F. Bolton and Dr K. E. Saxton (1992), USDA, Oregon & Washington, USA
Ref. Appld Engng in Agr 8(2),165-170
Equipment:Early prototype CROSS SLOT®drill, Strip drill, Yielder®double disc drill.
Conclusions:In the dry conditions that prevailed, the CROSS SLOT® no-tillage drill promoted 95% seedling emergence compared with 65% for strip till and 50% for double disc. 75% of the seedlings that emerged with the CROSS SLOT® no-tillage drill did so in a single day. This has major implications for evenness of maturity of a process vegetable crop such as peas. By comparison, seedling emergence with the other two drills was spread over 2-3 days.
